"Beloved Cacti," on display at Philadelphia International Airport. (all photos courtesy of the artist)

Artist Matty Geez is surrounded by cacti.

He has a few in the apartment he shares in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood with husband Erwin and cats Panda and Uma. About 15 live in his North Philly art studio.

And then there are the dozens of flamboyantly colored, towering cacti he creates in that studio -- super-charged soft sculptures that are now on display at Philadelphia International Airport through the end of the month.

When Alexandria "Lexi" Bonner wrapped up her final project for a PCA&D class on making a children's book, she didn't just shove the pages into a drawer and forget all about them.

No, those characters lingered in her mind: A mischievous firefly named Ember. A curly-haired, button-nosed child whose daytime curiosity spills over into a playful, creative dream world.

"Much like Cynthia, I have a deep connection to the arts and I have friends and family that push me to do better every single day. I want to thank the Price family for being so generous." said PCA&D Illustration student Antoinette "Annie" Troller, of Effort, PA, the recipient of the Cynthia E Price Memorial Scholarship for the 2018-19 academic year.

 J. Richard "Rick" Price and his two sons Jacob and Jordan, along with their families, created the Scholarship last year to remember Cynthia, their wife and mother, an artist and craftswoman who worked, lived, and loved in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
