As Noël Fry '20 gears up for her final weeks as a PCA&D student, she's gotten word that her artwork is garnering attention from a worldwide perspective:

Two single works of art, as well as a set of four prints, have been selected to appear in Create!, an independent magazine that features contemporary art from around the world.

The publication received a record number of entries for its annual women's issue call for art. Fry's work was selected by guest curator Liezel Strauss, founder of Art Girl Rising and last year named one of UN Women's top 100 female innovators worldwide.

Fine art on a canvas is one skill. Illustration on skin?

They're more closely related than you might think, says tattoo artist Sara Kay, who notes that her transition from one to the other "was kismet."

More than a decade after Sara Karpinski graduated with her BFA in Illustration from PCA&D, she is known as Sara Kay to her huge following for her groundbreaking work creating art on the body. Through the end of May, she's a featured artist in Body of Work: Tattoo Culture, an exhibit at the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle.

Five of artist Jason Herr's works still haven't returned from the gallery where they hung during Art Basel events in Miami, but it's hard to see where they'd fit in his studio on PCA&D's fourth floor.

Lit by late-afternoon winter sun slanting through a wall of windows, the corner studio already is full of paintings, their bold lines and vibrant colors popping from the white background of wall behind them.

Two pieces soon are heading to a show in Los Angeles. Others are headed to an exhibit at Little Berlin in Philadelphia, being curated by PCA&D Directions in Contemporary Art Adjunct Henry Gepfer. And all of the art covering the studio walls has been created during Herr's tenure in PCA&D's first-ever Fine Art Alumni Residency.

Corinne Carmiche '20 used her summer vacation from art school to take a crash course of sorts in public art in the real world: an internship with CITYarts, a New York-based public arts and education nonprofit.

CITYarts programs pair children and youth with professional artists to create public art in New York City. And, since its 1989 founding, CITYarts has gone global using local artists and volunteers. Youth on six continents, and in 81 countries, have created more than 6,000 works through CITYarts' Pieces for Peace Project.

When Corinne learned about the program, the Fine Art major says, it seemed a perfect fit.
