“Where are all my people?”

-- Every creative person, at some point

The creative life often starts as a constant inflow of ideas and feedback and collaboration, that jumble of inspiration and energy. But so much of a creative life in practice is solo -- working on the next piece, or struggling over the stubborn detail -- until you look around and wonder where that energy used to come from.

Maybe you were once inspired by critique sessions. Maybe it was the constant informal feedback provided by the structure of being in school. Maybe it simply was from the companionship and camaraderie of other artists, each on their own path but feeding into the creative flow.

If you’re missing that energy, PCA&D’s Continuing Education Department has a spark of a solution.

Instructor Erin Dorney is a freelance writer and marketing consultant working with advertising agencies and small businesses, as well as individual clients, to help with marketing strategies and copywriting. She is also the co-founder of Fear No Lit, a literary organization that hosts writing workshops and events. Erin will be teaching Creative Literary Explorations for Artists & Writers, Writing About: Art & You, and Make & Take: Zines for us this fall. Erin comes to us from a rural town along Lake Ontario in upstate/western New York where there were lots of apple farms, tons of lake-effect snow, and cornfields aplenty. Now she is settled into Lancaster City and creating inventive and powerful experiences in writing and literature for PCAD and our greater community. Read on to find out more about Erin and her classes.

Leah Limpert Walt is a painter, sculptor, and draftsman living and working in York, PA and received her BFA in Fine Art from Pennsylvania College of Art & Design. She has shown in New York City, Philadelphia, Bethlehem and throughout the lower Susquehanna Valley. Leah is an amazing artist and we're thrilled to have her back on campus as an instructor in two of our summer courses hosted by our Continuing Education department - " Color Lab" in our pre-college program and " Sculpture: Content, Process &  Experimentation" in our adult (ages 16 and up) program. We sat down with Leah to do a small Q&A to learn more about her and her influences as well as the courses she will be teaching at PCA&D.

Pam Barby is our Chairperson of the graphic design department in our Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program. Pam developed a love for art and design at a young age and was heavily influenced by her grandfather, who was a painter.  Her expanded passion for design began during her college years. After graduating college, she was an in-house designer within the beauty industry, and then moved on to a small design studio creating a variety of print work. She began her freelance career in 2001. A few years later she was extended an invitation to teach at Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D) in 2005 and has been an invaluable source of professional guidance and leader of all things in graphic design since her arrival.
