Looking to expand your design knowledge with Adobe Illustrator or add to your professional credentials in graphic design? We've got you covered. This summer, faculty member Matt Hannigan is teaching our Adobe Illustrator course on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Not only is this course a must for those wanting to learn more about the possibilities within Illustrator, but it is also a core course in several of our professional certificate programs.

Matt is originally from Mechanicsburg, Pa but currently resides in Lancaster.
He has a BA in Studio Art with a concentration in Design and Digital Media and is currently Principal and Creative Director at GoodThree. We sat down with Matt to talk a bit about himself and his Adobe Illustrator class.

What brought you to PCA&D and what are you most looking forward to in your class this summer?
MH: A friend and design colleague connected me with PCA&D and the opportunity to teach. They encouraged me to become involved to share my views on design processes and practices. I’m looking forward to seeing
students learn new skills and, hopefully, view design through a different lens than they had, previously.

What type of projects are currently in the works for you?
MH: A wide variety, actually. At GoodThree, we’re about to implement a few new identities for local brands and beginning the branding process for a few other local and national brands. We’re also working on some reports, illustrations and websites that should be going out soon. Outside of the normal work day, I’ve always got a personal design project or two underway.

What are your thoughts about the importance of graphic design?
MH: Simply speaking, the ability to visualize an idea. I can do this and create impact, influence and more.

Can you tell us more about your Adobe Illustrator class that is running this summer?
MH: This summer, I’ll be instructing an introductory-level course on one of the most used programs in the industry. We’ll be looking at planning, process and prepping your projects from start to finish. You’ll be able to leave the class with a new skill and a new appreciation for the design field.

This class runs on Tuesday and Thursday nights starting July 9 - August 6 from 6 - 9 pm. It is worth credit which is a bonus for anyone looking to transfer coursework within PCA&D and beyond or if you are an art teacher looking to gain Act 48 credits for continuing education.  Here's the course description:

"Learn to create illustrations, technical drawings, logos, informational graphics, and other visuals using the cutting-edge drawing tools of Adobe Illustrator. An industry-standard vector graphics program, Adobe Illustrator is used primarily for creating print, multimedia, and online graphics. In this course, you will learn to effectively use the Adobe Illustrator software program while completing illustration and design projects on the computer. Basic computer skills are required to take this course. No Adobe Illustrator experience necessary!"

When you're not making art, what are some of your favorite things to do?
MH: I thoroughly enjoy adventuring with my wife and dogs or friends when I can find a rare moment that I’m not designing or sketching out a new piece. Anything involving enjoying fresh air is usually a win for me.

You can see more of Matt's work below and on the GoodThree site. Registration is open for the Adobe Illustrator class. Register today or email us at ce@pcad.edu with questions.
