Intro to 3D Computer Animation

COMPUTERthumb.jpgIntroduction to 3D design tools to produce short animations. Students will learn the basics of 3D modeling and fundamentals of animation to tell a story with simple objects. The course will cover classic animation techniques such as the bouncing ball exercise, as well as building a scene in 3D using Autodesk Maya software. No previous experience required.

Figure Sculpting - HS 29 - (afternoon) [fa icon="chevron-down"]

In this introductory to sculpting the figure, students will delve into the basics of figure modeling using Plasteline (oil-based clay) or terra cotta clay. You will explore the techniques of figure modeling from live models; projects will focus on realism and may transition through stages of abstraction. Whether a beginner or intermediate student, you’ll be able to move your own work to the next level. This supportive environment is the space you need to explore the making of art. NOTE: Nude models will be present for this course.

The act of doing good by giving a voice to the voiceless can be a force to be reckoned with. On a worldwide scale– artists have and continue to produce iconic posters, advertising, websites, books, publications, clothing, accessories, and more that play an integral part in how the stories of our time unfold in the public forum and influence the good. In this course, you will draw upon current topics as inspiration for their your own unique campaigns while discussing case studies of past movements, individual works, and other artists in this field. This class is mainly a graphic design course held in our computer lab.

Discover the essence of design and typography through the creation of compelling real-world projects like typefaces, logos and posters. This course will introduce you to the fundamental skills that will unlock the possibilities of conceptual design from both traditional and contemporary points of view. Special attention is given to achieving highly creative solutions and being the most imaginative, compelling, and unique designer possible. NOTE: This is a non-computer course.

Is telling stories your thing? Do you ever think of it playing out through pictures in you head? Storyborading gives the story a visual life and sees it played out over a number of illustrated panels. This can be great for any artist, but those particularly interested in visual storytelling, illustration, concept art, digital media, or animation.

The class will guide you through building a finished storyboard. Starting with concept building and the foundations of storyboard terminology and it’s visual vocabulary/symbolism. Moving  into panel creation and critical thinking. Resulting in the final construction, and reveal of your finished Storyboard!

Kurt spent over 30 years in southern California studying under some Hollywood greats and he brings a wealth of knowledge from a lifetime of experience and practice to each class.
