Anthony Nardo has a love of the mechanical world, of cars, of mathematics, and of hands-on learning, and he recently combined all of them for a project that usually doesn't involve any of them:

Cosmetics.

And it was a beautiful, glossy hit.

Nardo, a Graphics Design senior, is one of five national finalists in The Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD) Association's 2020 Young Designers Awards Competition.

A pair of PCA&D students have been selected for an international photographers' conference program in January.

Kennedy Bryant Toomey (‘22 Photography & Video) and Nicole Stoltzfus (‘22 Photography & Video) have been accepted into the volunteer program at the Professional Photographers of America's 2020 Imaging USA Conference in Nashville. They'll join more than 10,000 international photographers in Nashville for the six-day conference, an event that combines conference, trade show, and exhibition, and is the largest of its kind in the U.S.

Organizers, Kennedy says, "choose several students from around the country to participate in order to create networking and connections between big-name photography corporations and students."

Toomey and Stoltzfus sat down to share their thoughts about the opportunity -- as well as their dream cameras, assignments, and inspirations, and what drew them to pursue a BFA in Photography & Video at PCA&D:

It can be tough, as an art student, to get your work seen beyond class critiques, professor evaluations, and your social media followers.

The work of more than half a dozen PCA&D students, though, recently was on display as part of an exhibit curated by Photography Department Chair Eric Weeks at the 2019 Pingyao International Photography Festival in Shanxi, China. It's the second time Weeks has curated student work at the weeklong event, which draws educators and artists from around the world.

This year, photos by Kay Baier '19, Justin Carney '20, Jose Collantes '19, Ashley Crist '20, Karim Gavins '20, and Kyra Shackelford, '20, along with former PCA&D student Hanna Schoener, were part of The Adventure of the Photographer: Photographs from Four Art & Design Colleges in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the United States. Along with works from PCA&D students, Weeks, curated student work from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, Philadelphia's University of the Arts, and Tyler School of Art, Temple University.
