 Sometimes life compels artists to use their art to speak up about issues in the community. In September 2014, Pennsylvania College of Art & Design alumnus Adam DelMarcelle, class of 2010, came face-to-face, on a very personal level, with the drug abuse crisis in his hometown of Lebanon, PA, when his brother died of a heroin overdose.

Every year since 2010, Samantha Reynolds, an 8th grader at Martin Meylin Middle School in the Lampeter-Strasburg School District, has taken classes at Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, 204 N. Prince Street, Lancaster. Samantha’s younger sister Callie, a 4th grader at Hans Herr Elementary, also takes classes at PCA&D.

China Blue

This spring, the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design’s Main Gallery is presenting a series highlighting scientific and technologically-inspired artwork. 

The next exhibition in the series is Creativity of Consciousness, March 17th- April 28th, which features the revolutionary work of artist China Blue and her team. 

  • China Blue will lead a panel discussion with collabotators Dr. Seth Horowitz, author of "Universal Sense: How Hearing Shapes the Mind," and coder Christopher Konopka on March 17 at noon. The presentation will be open to the public.
  • First Friday Reception at PCA&D, Friday April 7, 5 – 8 p.m.

HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, and the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design (PCA&D) have announced a dual admissions transfer agreement, allowing HACC students who earn an Associate of Fine Arts in Photography to complete their Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography at PCA&D, Lancaster, without loss of credit and without extending the length of time required to complete a bachelor’s degree.

Earlier this month, PCA&D's Illustration Department took its annual trip to New York to visit the Society of Illustrators and other venues.

During the trip, the students were able to view the Professional Book and Editorial Show at the Society of Illustrators as well as its historical collection, which was displayed by PCA&D faculty member Eric Fowler, who is also the collections manager at the Society.

"Allegory: Plato", oil, 15" x 16"

PCA&D Professor Tom Scullin will be exhibiting his recent work “Allegories” at Ware Center Regitz Gallery. during the month of April. The First Friday opening is Friday April 7.  

Below is Tom's explanation about his working method for producing these paintings.  His take on history if often magical or  tragic in character, or deals with issues of morality that questions what is sacred or profane. In these works, he employs surreal juxtapositions, extreme coloration, and dramatic use of light to create a hyper-baroque style.
