Every year for nine years, right before spring break, PCA&D students shut themselves in to give back to the community.  At the annual Designathon, PCA&D’s Graphic Design Department and the student chapter of AIGA (The American Institute of Graphic Arts) coordinate the event, a 24-hour marathon to design quality graphic materials for local non-profit organizations.

Classes began this week at Pennsylvania College of Art & Design with the highest student population since 2012 returning to campus.

Last week, during Foundation Orientation, a panel of returning students offered advice to new students on how to make the most of their time at PCA&D. The current exhibition in PCA&D's Main Gallery, Selected Artworks from the BFA Program at PCA&D, features a selection of outstanding artwork created by three dozen of our rising junior and senior BFA students. A wide variety of media are represented including digital and hand-painted illustration, sculpture, painting, printmaking, photography and graphic design.

Join us and meet the artists on First Friday, July 7, 5 - 8 p.m.

 

The exhibit runs through July 21. Summer Hours for PCA&D's Main Gallery, 204 N Prince Street, Lancaster, are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Open First Friday until 8 p.m. Closed Saturdays and Sundays. Opening Reception: First Friday, July 7, 5 -8 p.m.

From hundreds of entries all over the USA, fewer than 50 projects were chosen as winners for the 2017 GDUSA Students Design Award.  One of those selected was the "PAL" campaign,  focusing on childhood exposure to violence awareness. The campaign was was created by Kelsey Harmon, Eldersburg, MD, Jared Shuey, Northhampton, PA,  and Emily White, York, PA, for their Junior Design Studio II class, taught by Pam Barby, Chair of Graphic Design.
