abigail_Bonett.jpgOne of the friendly faces greeting prospective art students at Pennsylvania College of Art & Design is Abigail Bonett, a 2016-17 PCA&D Student Ambassador. If you are coming to a PCA&D Open House, such as the one on  Saturday, September 24, you'll see Abigail as you tour around our College.

Abigail is a Senior Illustration major and a graduate of North Brunswick Township High School, in North Brunswick New Jersey.  When she was looking at art colleges, she was attracted to PCA&D because of its intimate collaborative environment. Of Lancaster she says she was surprised to find how comfortable she felt walking around the city, "It's extremely homey, but with all the charm of a cultural artistic city." Abigail's artwork can be viewed on her website http://dropr.com/abigailbonett.

Here are some of her thoughts:

What words of wisdom would you share with a prospective student?

"You'll get out of the program what you put into it! Work hard and make the most of the faculty to improve your skillset."

Which PCA&D professor impacted you the most?

"Bob Hochgertel - He's taken time with me to support my journey through the curriculum, making sure I'm getting the most of the program. I was surprised how well each professor gets to know you, and how I wasn't disappointed with any of them."

What does being a Student Ambassador mean to you?

"It means extending the same kindness toward prospective students that I was extended when I was looking at schools."

When were you inspired by another student?

"Seeing my classmates experimenting with new mediums."

What activity will you always remember?

"The Illustration Department field trip to the Brandywine River Museum and seeing the Wyeth paintings."

Share about an experience that impacted your understanding of the creative industry.

"The internship program helped me to understand client interaction. This past summer, I did my internship with the Broadway Theater in Pitman, New Jersey, designing backdrops for them. I am currently doing a mentorship with former Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks Visual Development artist Armand Baltazar."

Student Ambassadors serve as representatives of the college. They work primarily with the admissions department where they serve as guides for prospective students and their parents, art teachers, and guidance counselors. Student Ambassadors attend each PCA&D open house event and provide important insight into the creative environment afforded to students in our degree programs and create an important link to prospective students who want to be part of the PCA&D community.

We will be featuring our Student Ambassadors throughout the year in this series of blog posts.
