Are You Taking a Gap Year?

Posted by Amber Kane on May 10, 2018 8:02:32 AM

As you finish your senior year in high school, it can be hard to decide what to do next.

Do you want to attend a 4-year college, get an associates degree, or take a gap year?

In case this is the first time that you're hearing of a gap year, let me back up for a moment and explain what it is. A gap year usually means that you're not sure what your next step after high school should be. It's a year for you to explore, experiment, and get a better idea of what you want to do.

You might also take a gap year because you're experiencing academic burnout. Or because you need time away from the strict schedule of school, and the traditional workload. Or your grades might not be exactly what you need them to be to get into the school of your dreams. A gap year allows you to take a classes or complete an internship and discover where your next step should be.630_March2013_PCAD_TENNISON

Taking a continuing education class can be a great way to keep learning, without having the burden of a full academic schedule.

Even better, consider earning a certificate. Most certificates consist of 4 classes and can be completed quickly. A certificate gives you a micro-credential to add to your resume. PCA&D offers six certificates that can give you skills that you can use, no matter where your career path eventually leads:

  • Social Media Marketing
  • Digital Marketing Professional
  • The Digital Design : Print
  • Digital Design: Web
  • Design Professional
  • Entrepreneur: Design & Digital Marketing

Continuing Education classes, including courses for the Certificate Programs, usually meet once or twice a week in the evening, allowing for a flexible schedule.
